The Terzo Valico dei Giovi will enhance the connections of the Ligurian port system with the main railway lines in Northern Italy and with the rest of Europe. It will significantly change the transport of both people and goods.  The new line is mainly developed underground. Starting from Genoa, the first section, the so-called Valico Tunnel, runs for 27km in the tunnel. It is the longest underground railway route in Italy.  Construction sites were opened along the entire route.
